Mindy came into the studio this week. Lovely young woman, full of smiles and genuinely lifts a room just by her presence… and just from what I heard while she walked around singing to herself, she has a great voice, too.

This precious little one came in for headshots recently… absolute doll to work with, takes instructions amazingly well. Producers out there should hire this one.

This young actor came in for a headshot this week. Used a little different light setup than I’ve been doing lately.. going back to my roots on actor headshots. The constant light gives a much softer feel to it.. more organic, I think.

This is also post #500 for this blog.. not on this software since I pulled it over from LiveJournal at one point, but still.. that’s a lot of posts.
I’ve been posting a lot of art type stuff lately, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still doing headshots and portraits. This local CEO came in recently to get a headshot for a magazine article soon to run about his business.

I have recently added a One Look Headshot back to my offerings. For $99, you receive a short session and one full resolution image you can use for all your personal needs. (Some restrictions apply.)
I first met David’s parents on a contract job back in my programming days.. over the last 13 years, I’ve watched him and his brothers grow up. As an Eagle Scout myself, I was honored to write a recommendation letter for David when he was submitting his application for his. Next week, I’ll be honored again to be a part of his Eagle Scout Court of Honor where he will be officially awarded the badge.
For those that don’t know, Eagle Scout is a tremendous accomplishment and can only be achieved through years of hard work and planning. Along the way you learn not just scouting skills, but leadership, academic, and personal ones. Only the most dedicated make it to the end of that road.. and now David is among us.
He came into the studio this week for some portraits for his ceremony/invitations/announcements… this was an “outtake” of sorts.. he called it his “Facebook” face.. and he’s already set it as his avatar over there.

My favorite image from 2009 gains that distinction not just because it is a compelling photograph with a strong sense of story and emotion.. its also deeply personal to me. My dear friend Lar was diagnosed with breast cancer in October of 2008. She had me do her photo several times during the course of treatment, but none were as emotional as making this image in May in the middle of her chemotherapy. Lar is an amazingly beautiful woman with piercing blue eyes and its those same eyes that are so penetrating here, full of strength and sadness and pain all at once.
She was a Godsend to my wife this year, who was diagnosed with cancer – lymphoma – herself in March. She was able to help with advice and commiseration. They are both cancer free now and ready to put this nightmare year behind them.. another reason to post this image today.

Photography info: This is shot with a dark room for a background and in a room with two skylights above and south facing windows. An off camera fill flash to camera right was used to fill in shadows and get a small catchlight. Shot with a 70-200 2.8L wide open.

The next image that was in the running for my favorite image of 2009 is this headshot of Austin. Not many people have the ability and attitude to pull off this particular pose, a combination of suave and rebellious.. and Austin managed to channel a little of James Dean, with attitude if not look.

Zuzzie
Had a shoot with one of my photographer groups last week at a nearby small airport. We had classic planes and classic cars (and one Harley) as well as some local models at our disposal. This is a strobist group, so everything you see is lit with small flashes and modifiers mixed with ambient light. Of course, I made a few headshots while I had them as well.

Stephanie

Holleymarie

Rashell

Ashley (Who reminds me of an actress, but I can’t put my finger on it)

Lloyd

Deve
And a couple more of the lovely Zuzzie. I could shoot this woman all day…
