Meagan and Matadora

My daughter, Meagan, will sometimes agree to model new patterns for her mother’s business, Knitting Fairy. The crop sweater is a new design called Matadora. This image was actually one of the outtakes, but I liked it for the energy.

Update for Those Reading the Tutorial Today

I had a tutorial posted on I Heart Faces this morning which linked to some posts from last year, so this may look random to other readers. In those posts, I mentioned my wife’s cancer which was diagnosed in March of last year.

I’m happy to say she’s cancer free and we’ve been getting back to normal. It was a long, hard road that I didn’t want to dwell on in the blog, so there isn’t a lot of news posted along the way. I will be making a more detailed post next week celebrating the getting to the next part of our lives.

Speaking of cancer, a dear friend of mine who was also battling cancer last year (diagnosed several months before my wife) was the subject of my favorite image from 2009. That image has been entered in a contest. If you are interested, please consider stopping by and voting in the People’s Choice portion of that contest.. the link to my image is here.

Always Make Time to Stop and Smell the Flowers

I’ve added a new image to my CafePress store.

This image was captured one morning at the botanic gardens when I was there to shoot an engagement couple. The squirrel was actually beheading the flowers and eating the centers, but I liked this title. :)

Business Headshot John

I’ve been posting a lot of art type stuff lately, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still doing headshots and portraits. This local CEO came in recently to get a headshot for a magazine article soon to run about his business.

I have recently added a One Look Headshot back to my offerings. For $99, you receive a short session and one full resolution image you can use for all your personal needs. (Some restrictions apply.)

Snow Days

Our crazy winter weather this season continued last week. I’ve lived in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for 25 winters now and its rare for us to have more than 2 winter events (ice or snow) in a season. Snowfall itself is rare, usually only falling after a sheet of ice falls first – and even then, its only a dusting – maybe as much as an inch. The last real snow (before this season) we had was on Valentine’s Day in 2004 – the same year as The Fish Creek Project where we had 3 or 4 inches.

I’ve lost count of how many times its snowed .. real snow, not ice .. this season. Last Thursday, we had 9 1/2 inches in one day. The total for the storm (Thursday into Friday morning) was 12 inches. Both numbers shattered previous records, making the totals the highest ever recorded for a single day and a single storm. I hear tell we are only a little bit shy of an all time winter record as well.

Of course, you want to see pictures… that’s why you’re here. All of these except the Fish Creek Trail were done in the morning after it had been snowing for only 5 hours. I had no idea at the time how much we were going to get before it was over. The Fish Creek Trail image was done after 12 hours of snow.

This one was also shot in the morning. I almost didn’t shoot it because I had made an image of the same scene in 2004, but I’m glad I did. The 2010 shot is first, followed by the 2004 shot. Its kind of cool to compare….

Footprints in Your Heart

I’ve just added a new image to my CafePress store… I found the perfect quote from Eleanor Roosevelt to go with it.

Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.

Ashley

Ashley called me last Saturday morning in a panic. She’d had her hair and makeup done and her photographer canceled on her. She had this grand plan for a Valentine’s Day session she could send to her boyfriend in the Navy. I was glad to help her out. Here’s one of the images from our impromptu OpLove session.

My Favorite Seat

I’ve been working at re-organizing the offerings at my CafePress store and thought I’d put this classic from my archives up for sale there. I wanted to give it a border treatment so that it felt a little classier when printed as a poster.. this is what I came up with.

OpLove Session: Lori

As many long time watchers of my blog know, I am involved with a couple charities where I donate photographic services. Of course, I talk about the Haunted House the most, but I also do work with Operation: Love ReUnited as well. This group hooks up photographers with families that have soldiers deployed overseas. They get a free photo session while their soldier is deployed and we, as the photographers, provide a small album sent directly to the soldier at their duty station. Its a little way of boosting morale for our troops.

This is one from one of my most recent sessions, Lori.
